The Roland Martin Marine Center Series Qualifier #2 continues strong with Big Bass and Big Checks
CLEWISTON, FL – With a full field of 142 boats launching out of Roland Martin Marina at safe light, Qualifier #2 of the highest paying team tournament trail in Florida was on.
It didn’t take long after the first flight of teams started bringing limits to the stage to see that it was going to take a hefty sack to take home the $6,000 winner’s check. In fact, if you didn’t have a limit of twenty pounds or more you were headed home without a paycheck.
When the final bag was weighed, the team of Roger Crafton and Todd Schlueter were the 2018 June Qualifier #2 Champions. With 31.39 pounds of Lake Okeechobee largemouth, they took top honors and the winner’s check for $6,000.
“The day started out a little slow,” said Crafton. “We were fishing from East Wall to King’s Bar and caught a lot small fish early but the big ones didn’t come until the last few hours of the day. And we were catching them on a popping frog in bluegill color.”
“Our big fish was 7.72 on the popping frog,” said Schlueter. “We were grinding with a senko and swim jig with nothing to show so we decided to burn some gas and make the run.”
In second place along with Big Bass honors was the team of Harlen Griggs and Skip Simmonds with 29.34 pounds taking home $3,000 and $500 for the U.S. Sugar Big Bass. And just behind in third place with 29.26 pounds was the team of Buck Durrance and Larry Wright taking home $1,800.
Overall, the highest paying team tournament trail in Florida paid out to the top 23 finishing teams. And 22 of those teams had over 22 pounds of Lake Okeechobee largemouth. Big Bass and Big Checks with 100% true payout is what this tournament trail is all about.
